How-To Install A StopTech Street Axle Pack

This is more of a review of the StopTech rotors than how to install as when it comes to brakes I leave this to the professionals. So… I brought my car in to Family Automotive and Tire for it’s first big 32k maintenance service and advised the head tech Kenn Black that I feel some shake when applying the brakes. Turns out I have excessive runout, aka warped rotors in the front. The car only has 30k miles and the rotors are warped? After doing some research I found that this is a common issue with the stock rotors so decided to upgrade to a higher quality grade with StopTech (Note StopTech used to be PowerSlot and was bought out by Centric). StopTech has 2 Axle Kits to choose from: Street or Sport. I decided on the Street kit as it comes with a less abrasive pad that allows for longer life, less heat and noise. Additionally I went with just slotted as research shows modern drilled rotors offer nothing more than a cosmetic look and are more prone to cracking.

I ordered the Axle Kit from Mat at BuyBrakes.com (888-257-7149 ext 458) who walked me though the process of making sure I choose the right parts. He was very knowledgable, personal, and professional. I highly recommend buying rotors and pads from BuyBrakes. The Rotor Kit arrived in just a few days and I made my appointment with Kenn and Family Auto and Tire for the same week.

Ready For Rotors/Pads

Got the car up on the lift and Kenn started the process with removing the rims and knocking off the rotors. However we soon noticed the wrong pads were in the right box for the rear. Kenn moved on to completing the front rotors and after we called BuyBrakes to get the issue resolved. Got ahold of Tom in customer service (888-257-7149 ext 454) and with just a few photos determined we had Honda pads in the right box (miss-boxed). They were very embarrassed and got the new pads right out in the mail same day.

Rotors/Pads Bedded

In post of the front rotor/pads install I left Family Auto and Tires and proceeded to bed the pads. You need to do (4) series of 60mph-5mph making sure not to stop then drive for 5-miles allowing the rotors to cool. I was lucky enough to not have anyone in front or back allowing me to do this just before getting on the freeway. Once I arrived to my destination I noticed the rotors were perfectly bedded with a nice transference of a tan color. From there I simply drive normal.

So far I’ve got to say the rotors and pads feel great. They are similar to what I had on before with more grip and no more warped shake. I highly recommend StopTech Axle Kits.
